Pressed E-max Crown

Pressed E-max Crown
Details:
The pressed E-max crown is widely regarded as one of the most reliable all-ceramic restorations in modern dentistry. Fabricated through the heat-press technique using lithium disilicate ingots, this crown type offers a unique combination of dense internal structure, exceptional marginal adaptation, and natural-looking optical properties. Unlike milled restorations, heat-pressed E-max crowns benefit from a homogeneous crystalline microstructure formed under controlled heat and pressure — resulting in fewer internal flaws and a stronger, more consistent ceramic matrix that dentists and labs worldwide trust for long-term predictability.

Key Features & Benefits

Homogeneous Microstructure Through Heat-Pressing

The heat-press technique forces molten lithium disilicate into a precise mold under controlled temperature and pressure, eliminating the porosity and micro-voids that can occur in milled blocks. The result is a denser, more homogeneous ceramic with fewer internal defects - giving pressed E-max crowns a mechanical advantage that translates directly into clinical longevity and reduced fracture risk.

Superior Marginal Adaptation

One of the most clinically recognized advantages of heat-pressed restorations is their marginal precision. The pressing process allows the ceramic to flow into fine margin details with a level of accuracy that is difficult to replicate through subtractive milling alone. For clinicians who demand tight margins and minimal cement gaps, the pressed E-max technique consistently delivers.

Versatile Finishing - Monolithic or Layered

Pressed E-max crowns can be delivered as fully glazed monolithic restorations for efficiency and strength, or with porcelain cutback and hand layering for cases demanding the highest level of esthetic customization. This flexibility makes them suitable for a wide range of clinical scenarios - from straightforward single-crown replacements to complex smile makeovers requiring nuanced shade and texture work.

Exceptional Optical Depth and Vitality

Lithium disilicate exhibits internal fluorescence and light scattering properties that closely mimic the optical behavior of natural tooth structure. When pressed and properly characterized, E-max crowns display the kind of three-dimensional color depth and incisal luminosity that makes restorations truly lifelike - a quality that patients notice and clinicians take pride in.

Biocompatible and Metal-Free

Pressed E-max crowns are 100% metal-free, making them an ideal solution for patients with metal sensitivities or those seeking all-ceramic restorations for health or esthetic reasons. Lithium disilicate is biocompatible, tissue-friendly, and approved for use in FDA-compliant dental laboratory environments.

Clinical Indications

Pressed E-max crowns are clinically suitable for the following restorative scenarios:

  • Full-coverage crowns on anterior teeth (incisors, canines) and premolars
  • Cases where marginal precision is a primary clinical priority
  • Patients requiring esthetic, metal-free restorations with natural optical properties
  • Three-unit anterior or premolar bridges (with sufficient support)
  • Post-endodontic crown restorations on anterior and premolar teeth
  • Smile design cases requiring high-level shade customization and layered porcelain
  • Replacement of failing PFM or composite restorations in esthetic zones
  • Cases with challenging shade matching requirements where custom layering is necessary

Manufacturing Workflow

Step 1 - Case Intake & Documentation

Submit your case to ADS Dental Lab by uploading an STL scan file or shipping a conventional impression via your preferred courier (FedEx, UPS, DHL, or Linex). To ensure accurate shade matching and anatomical design, please include pre-preparation and post-preparation patient photos, the shade of the abutment tooth, any desired tooth proportions or length preferences, and scans or records of the provisional restoration where available. Thorough documentation at this stage directly reduces the likelihood of remakes.

Step 2 - Digital Design & Smile Confirmation

Our design team uses the submitted records to build a digital restoration design, incorporating the patient's facial photo and clinical parameters to create a Smile Design preview. This is shared with you as an STL or HTML file for review before any pressing takes place. We consider this confirmation step non-negotiable - it ensures the pressed crown you receive reflects exactly the form and esthetics you and your patient have agreed on.

Step 3 - Wax-Up & Spruing

Once the design is approved, our technicians produce a precise wax pattern - either through CAD/CAM milling of a wax blank or by hand wax-up - that forms the investment mold for pressing. The wax pattern is carefully sprued and invested to ensure proper flow direction and minimize flash or incomplete fills during the press cycle. Attention at this stage is critical to the crown's final fit and surface integrity.

Step 4 - Heat-Pressing

The invested mold is loaded into a certified pressing furnace along with the appropriate IPS E-max Press ingot, selected based on the required translucency level (HT, LT, or MO). Under precise temperature and pressure conditions, the molten glass ceramic is forced into the mold cavity - forming a dense, bubble-free crown body with excellent internal homogeneity. The pressing cycle is monitored and documented as part of our quality management process.

Step 5 - Divesting, Finishing & Characterization

After pressing, the crown is carefully divested, cleaned of investment material, and inspected for internal integrity. Depending on the case specification, the restoration is either glazed as a monolithic crown or prepared for cutback porcelain layering. Our ceramic technicians apply surface stains and glazes - or layer feldspathic porcelain for full-custom cases - to achieve the natural color gradients, surface texture, and translucency requested in the case documentation.

Step 6 - Quality Control & Shipping

Each finished pressed E-max crown is reviewed against the original case documentation for margin fit, shade accuracy, anatomy, and surface quality before packaging. Approved cases are dispatched within 4–5 working days of receipt. Payment is accepted via international wire transfer or PayPal, and our team is available for case communication throughout the entire process.

FAQ

Q1: What is a pressed E-max crown?

A pressed E-max crown is an all-ceramic crown made from lithium disilicate ceramic using the heat-pressing technique. It is known for natural esthetics, good strength, and a metal-free structure.

Q2: What is the difference between pressed E-max and milled E-max?

Pressed E-max is made by pressing ceramic ingots into an invested mold, while milled E-max is produced from CAD/CAM blocks. Both can provide excellent results. Pressed E-max is often preferred by some labs and clinicians for its traditional ceramic workflow and esthetic control.

Q3: Can ADS Dental Lab make pressed E-max crowns for anterior teeth?

Yes. Pressed E-max crowns are commonly used for anterior restorations. For front tooth cases, we recommend sending patient photos, stump shade, and adjacent tooth shade information for better color matching.

Q4: Do you accept STL files for pressed E-max crown cases?

Yes. We accept STL files from intraoral scanners and lab scanners. We also accept physical impressions or models shipped by FedEx, UPS, DHL, or Linex.

Q5: How long does production take?

Most pressed E-max crown cases can be completed within 4–5 working days after we receive complete files, impressions, photos, shade details, and case instructions.

Q6: What information should I provide for esthetic pressed E-max cases?

For best results, please provide patient photos, stump shade, final shade, pre-preparation scan, post-preparation scan, temporary restoration scan if available, and the desired tooth length or shape.

Q7: Can I send only one pressed E-max crown case first?

Yes. ADS Dental Lab accepts single-unit cases. Many overseas dentists and dental laboratories start with a trial case before building long-term outsourcing cooperation.

Q8: How do I start working with ADS Dental Lab?

You can send your case files, prescription, photos, and shade information to ADS Dental Lab. Our team will review the case, confirm the details, and guide you through production, payment, and international shipping.
